Portable cooling tower fleet rebuild: 8 units in one month

A fleet of 8 portable containerised cooling towers needed new fill and drift eliminators. Once opened up, they were in worse condition than expected. We took on the extra mechanical work and still delivered all 8 within a strict one-month timeline.

The challenge

Portable cooling towers are built into a container frame so they can be trucked to wherever extra cooling is needed. This fleet of 8 was booked in for new fill media and drift eliminators.

Once we started, the units showed more wear than first expected. Drives, motors and fan housings were also degraded. The fleet still had to be back in service within a strict one-month timeline, so the extra work had to fit inside the same window.

Rebuilding the portable cooling tower fleet

We scoped the additional repairs unit by unit and ran them alongside the original works:

  • Replaced the fill media and drift eliminators on all 8 towers.
  • Replaced the drives.
  • Refurbished the motors, or replaced them where they were beyond repair.
  • Refurbished the fan housings, or sourced rapid replacements where needed.
  • Designed and manufactured replacement top grates.

The result

  • All 8 portable cooling towers rebuilt and returned to service.
  • The extra repair work completed within the original one-month timeline.
  • New fill, drift eliminators, drives and top grates across the fleet, with motors and fan housings refurbished or replaced as needed.
